The four of us looked like a freak band of pants-less burglars sneaking down the stairs, blankets wrapped around our shoulders.
And then I realized that maybe we’re learning something in this storm of pandemic and quarantine and social distancing. Maybe we’re learning some things as a family that I don’t want to unlearn when the world goes back to normal.
Giving our kids less stuff and more time with us created happier kids and happier parents.
So, when I fell into bed an exhausted mess, not even sure if I’d brushed my teeth or eaten dinner, or what order I’d done them in if at all, I told my husband, “It worked! They learned something!”
When all of this mess is over, I hope that we don’t forget to play hide and seek out back in the woods. Someday, when they bring their significant others to meet us, we all run out there like we did today and hide deep in the leaves and bear poop, listening.
I don’t need those jalapenos or that broccoli. My kids get enough vegetables in the ketchup packets they receive from the free school lunches every day.
For probably ten minutes, I went on a rampage about everything that was wrong in my house on Easter.
Still, something inside of me tells me that when this is all over, I won’t remember much about the Coronavirus, except all the places the Coronavirus isn’t.
I fear the children that will walk out of my house after this quarantine. And you should, too.
Teachers are amazing people, and I wish that THEY were able to educate my kids. But the internet will not be my kid’s teacher.
In hindsight, God has always provided, and while I can’t imagine how He is going to get us through this storm of virus and quarantine, I know He is. I have proof that He has provided great blessings through much worse.
